Getting more healthy in 2023? Here's how to keep up your resolutions

Did you know that only 10% of people reach their new years resolution and most people don't even follow through with the one they set for themselves? I'm part of the 90% who doesn't stick to their new years resolution year after year. I started asking why and read a bunch of scientific studies around habits, behavior change and how to reach goals. Here's what I found out about how to stick to your new years resolution.

Here are a few tips to help you stick to your healthy new year's resolution:

Set realistic goals and make them SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-Bound). This will help you stay motivated when things get tough.

Make sure that your goal is specific so that it can be measured easily. For example, instead of saying "I want to lose weight", say "I want to lose 10 kgs".

Set the goal at a time when you have enough time to achieve it. For example, if your goal is to stop eating junk food for 6 months, then set this as a realistic goal because it takes time to change habits. If your goal is too ambitious or unrealistic, then you might give up quickly without achieving anything. And this defeats the whole purpose of taking on such a challenge in the first place!

Set realistic goals

Don't set goals that are too ambitious or unrealistic. Instead, aim for small steps you can take every day. For example, if your goal is to lose weight this year, don't try to lose 10 pounds in January. Instead, focus on eating less junk food and exercising more often — even if it's just a 10-minute walk each day. Or adding a morning shot of ACV before breakfast.

Make your goal public

When you tell people about your goal, they're more likely to support it and encourage you along the way. Plus making your goals public helps keep you accountable to yourself and others!

Get an accountability buddy

Teamwork really does make the dream work. Especially when you’re feeling flat and ready to quit, your accountability buddy will be there to boost you up when you need it the most. With an accountability buddy, you have another person to help chronicle your successes towards your resolution. And, you're much less likely to allow yourself to let your partner down than to allow yourself to take shortcuts on your own.

We’d love to be your accountability buddy
